Dr Lui Che-woo makes RMB200 million donation to Tsinghua University

In 2019, Dr Lui Che-woo made a RMB200 million donation to Tsinghua University for the construction of the “Lui Che Woo Pharmaceutical Sciences Building” and the “Lui Che Woo Medical Sciences Building”.  The two new blocks at the Tsinghua University Biomedical Sciences Building are set to provide better research and teaching facilities for faculty and students, and support the development of medical, pharmaceutical science and other related disciplines, at Tsinghua University.

Tsinghua University will name the two blocks as “Lui Che Woo Pharmaceutical Sciences Building” and “Lui Che Woo Medical Sciences Building”. Witnessed by faculty members and students of the University as well as members of the press, Chen Xu, Chancellor of Tsinghua University, and Yang Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, signed the donation agreement with Dr Lui on behalf of the University and Tsinghua University Education Foundation, respectively.

The event marked the unveiling of a joint effort to drive research, innovation and sustainable development, in the field of the life, medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Lui said that the development of medical technology is a cornerstone in securing the well-being of future generations of the human race. He looked forward to the development of the “Lui Che Woo Pharmaceutical Sciences Building” and the “Lui Che Woo Medical Sciences Building”, into a national base for research into, and the teaching of, important technologies. The facility is designed to further enhance academic research, and scientific and technological innovation, at Tsinghua University, and play an active and sustainable role in advancing the welfare of mankind.

Housing top scientific research institutions including Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Structural Biology, McGovern Institute for Brain Research and National Center for Protein Science

The Biomedical Sciences Building will be consist of four wings and be mainly used by the School of Life Sciences for teaching, and for scientific research, in the life sciences, medicine, the pharmaceutical sciences and other cross-disciplinary subjects. It will also house top scientific research institutions including the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Structural Biology, the McGovern Institute for Brain Research and the National Center for Protein Science. “Lui Che Woo Pharmaceutical Sciences Building” is intended to provide the venue for teaching and scientific research in pharmacological developments, while housing scientific research institutions such as Global Health Drug Discovery Institute (Beijing), Tsinghua Pharmaceutical Innovation Center and Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. “Lui Che Woo Medical Sciences Building” is intended to provide a venue for teaching and scientific research in cross-disciplinary subjects in the life sciences.
